A group of us were staying at Penelope Tree’s family house in Barbados, Heron Bay, when we decided to go to the Trinidad Mardi Gras celebrations. This photograph of Penelope and Ricky was taken on the beach after we had been dancing all night. I was constantly experimenting with film, so pushed Ektachrome film to 400 ASA with a coloured filter on my lens. Ricky was then drumming with the Beach Boys, but Eric Idle had cast him to play George Harrison in The Rutles ‘All You Need is Cash’ while Penelope played his wife. Both remain two of my dearest friends. I love the simple innocence of this shot, and how beautiful they look, despite us all being up all night.
