Carly Simon 1980
Carly and I have been friends since we met in New York in the 1970’s. Years later, I was having lunch with Carly at the River Café in Brooklyn. She was laughing, and as she threw her head back, her sunglasses caught the reflection of Manhattan’s World Trade Centre towers across the river. A few years later, Carly would write the theme song for ‘Working Girl’, called ‘Let The River Run’, influenced by the view from that Brooklyn restaurant. In 1989 that song went on to win a Grammy, a Golden Globe, and Best Song at the Academy Awards. Little did we know then of the tragic events that were to play out over a decade later on the September 11th, 2001.
