Shelley Duvall became a close friend while I was living in Los Angeles in the early 1970’s, and came to stay with me in London in the early days of pre-production for‘The Shining’. I photographed her on lots of different sets including ‘The Shining’ and ‘Popeye’. She invited me out to Palm Springs during the making of ‘3 Women’, directed by Robert Altman. As Altman liked to take things slowly, there was a lot of hanging around, so I asked Shelley to pose for me in an empty swimming pool which was being used as one of the sets. It was almost impossible to take a bad photo of Shelley as she had such a great bone structure.
